To the Teachers Who Help Build Our Communities: Thank You

As another school year comes to a close, backpacks are being cleaned out, classroom walls are coming down, report cards are being finalized, and students are counting down the minutes until summer break.

But before the school year fully wraps up, we want to pause and say something simple, sincere, and deeply deserved:

Thank you, teachers.

Thank you for the early mornings, late evenings, lesson plans, grading, parent messages, classroom decorations, extra patience, and the thousand little things no one sees.

Thank you for showing up when you were tired.

Thank you for encouraging the child who needed confidence.

Thank you for challenging the student who needed a push.

Thank you for creating safe spaces, structured days, and moments of joy.

Thank you for teaching far more than reading, math, science, and history. You teach kindness, responsibility, resilience, respect, problem-solving, and confidence. You help shape not just students, but future neighbors, leaders, business owners, parents, and community members.

Here in Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee, our communities are built on people who care. And teachers are some of the strongest examples of that care in action.

You celebrate wins that may seem small to others but are huge to a child. You notice when something is wrong. You remember favorite snacks, hard days, big dreams, and quiet struggles. You carry stories home with you that most people will never hear, and still, you come back the next day ready to pour into your students again.

That matters.

A strong community does not happen by accident. It is built by people who invest in others, day after day, year after year. Teachers do exactly that.

As students head into summer, we hope every teacher gets a moment to breathe, rest, and feel proud of the difference they made this year. The work you do reaches far beyond the classroom. It shows up in our homes, our neighborhoods, our workplaces, and our future.
